Hi friends!
Our October grantee is Mt. Royal School of Art at MICA, who will be hosting artist Saya Woolfalk for a lecture on Tuesday, October 21 in the auditorium of the Lazarus Center. Saya’s work is rooted in science fiction and fantasy, and she has multiple longform projects – No Place, The Empathics, and ChimaTEK – which use those themes as vehicles to examine women's stories and question the idea of ‘utopia’. Attendance is free!

Cool Air. Warm Art. Stronger Together: National Awareness and Our Previous Grantees ...
There’s a bevy of awareness campaigns this month, including:
Bullying Prevention – see how the Don’t Be A Bully Project is using arts education and entertainment to stop bullying amongst youth

Mental Health – follow the work of artists such as Imani Shanklin Roberts, The SPACE Free Art for All, ArtEasy Studio, and Justice Arts Coalition for resources and classes devoted to art exploration and creation! Art has a direct impact on wellness, and it’s often implemented as a form of therapy and healing practice.

Hispanic Heritage – check out the work of these artists and past grantees – Carolina Mayorga, Guadalupe Maravilla, and Julio Valdez – as we close out this month of recognizing the impact and rich contributions of Hispanic and Latino people.

D.C. is subject to the consequences of what happens at the federal level. Currently, we are experiencing a government shutdown that impacts museums, jobs, and local services, and it is a scary, uncertain, and challenging time for some.
We continuously encourage folks to rely on and establish community. If you don’t know where to start, check your hyper-local museums, galleries, neighborhood business, and library for resources, events, and ways to connect.
Take good care of each other!
