Synesthesia Spectrum at Area 405
May 2024
This project will be the second iteration of an existing collaboration between students from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and the Peabody Conservatory. This collaboration will result in a two-day showcase in March/ April 2024 in Baltimore, MD, featuring new, interdisciplinary works of art and music specifically created for this event. The showcase of our first collaboration took place in May 2023 at NoMüNoMü, Baltimore, MD, involving six pairs of composers and artists from MICA and Peabody respectively. Continuing with the theme of last year’s project, we plan to focus on Asian composers and artists, providing an opportunity for these underrepresented artists to create new works that reflect their identities as Asian artists. Our first collaboration proved to be a success and brought together artists from MICA and Peabody as well as members of the local community who attended our event. By expanding the scope of our project this year, we hope to provide this unique collaborative opportunity to more artists and composers, as well as contribute more works to the artistic scene in Baltimore. This would also serve as a foundation for continued collaborations in the future, as we hope to make this an annual event. Through this project, we also hope to continue to connect with and inspire the local community, bringing to light our unique experiences and identities as Asian artists.
