Selena ‘Noir’ Jackson’s workshop: The Color of Skin

December 2023

My name is Selena "Noir" Jackson, I am a DC based visual artist whose work is housed in Red Dirt Studio of the Mt. Rainer, MD neighborhood. I am proposing an exhibition of a body of work called "En Profile", which is a documentation of various people I have met and celebrating their diversity. I have been researching ways to demystify the use of skin tone as well as showing honor and grace to people of color in traditional portraiture. In This workshop, The Color of Skin, we will be discussing the nuances of darker to deep skinned tones through the use of master copies along with a live demo featuring an art model of color. This in person workshop will be hosted at Red Dirt Studio's Fire House Gallery and will be free to the public. My goal is to host two of these workshops as well as an artist talk as public programing to this exhibition.
