Made from Nadz
April 2024
My name is Nadia Wong. I am a graduating senior majoring in psychology at Howard University, pursuing a career in art therapy. My brand Made From Nadz (MFN) combines artistic expression, mindfulness, and feminine health through sustainable, made-to-order products and curated events that serve Howard University and various D.C. communities. During the month of April, MFN will host our “DIME of the SZN” event series, offering mindfulness and networking opportunities to creative individuals who are pursuing careers in the expressive arts, creative therapy, and entertainment. The series will be divided into three parts: Psyche, Muses, and Body. “Psyche” kicks off the series with a free panel discussion, hosted by the Howard University 2023-2024 Miss College of Arts and Sciences on April 19th via Zoom. Following Psyche we have “Muses,” a mixer and portfolio event at The Village DC on April 20th. Finally, “Body” invites attendees to Meridian Hill Park on April 27th, where they’ll engage in a fun, interactive, core-intensive workout led by Kimmie Heavy Hoops, a DMV native specializing in dance movement therapy. An in-depth synopsis of each event can be found using the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S1yME6vlqIr5biMp-XzomvrylOnhTIb4akm61Cblk5Y/edit?usp=sharing Each program is intended to bridge the gap between creativity and healing. There is a need for more spaces that provide the tools for artists to be positively supported in their mental health, as they shape the culture and realities we exist in. DIME of the SZN was created to start the mending of this gap. Receiving this grant would help pay for venue spaces, supplies, and make each event low-cost to our attendees. We’d also like to offer the participants of these events the opportunity to apply to our creator fund, where we will donate supplies and resources to projects that promote wellness and community esteem.
